Rostratula australis  

I arrived at Bowra late in the afternoon and drove to the shearers' quarters where I was met by the caretaker Graham. He said "I can book you into your room or you can come and look at the two painted snipe that have just been spotted?" It was a tough decision! I joined the other ecstatic birders on the edge of the lagoon and many hundreds of photos were taken by us all.

The two snipe were on the end of the narrow island on the left of the lagoon beautifully lit by evening sunlight.
